Profile
Anthropologist, social researcher, PhD.
A practice built across fieldwork, institutions and cooperation, in three countries and over more than twenty years.

Oliver Duarte Herrera is an anthropologist and social researcher with a PhD in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Extremadura. His career connects ethnographic research with international cooperation, public policy, cultural heritage, social intervention and sexual and gender diversity studies.
First trained in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Central University of Venezuela and later in Ethnographic Research, Anthropological Theory and Intercultural Relations at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, he has carried out research in diverse contexts in Venezuela, Spain and Nicaragua. He has collaborated on projects linked to UNICEF and UNESCO, worked with public institutions, universities and civil-society organisations, and built experience in teaching and management.
His recent research focuses on heritage-making and the relationship between communities, institutions and territory; in parallel, he has worked on memory, repression, sexual diversity, the workplace, migration and rights. His practice combines ethnography, participatory methods, interviews, focus groups, documentary analysis and critical discourse analysis.
He sees anthropology not only as a discipline that describes reality, but as a tool to interpret contexts, ask better questions and produce knowledge that improves decisions, policies, projects and organisations.
